Avonvale Equine Vet Practice is an independent, ambulatory equine vet practice. We cover a wide area surrounding our head office near Banbury, including Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, parts of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, and the Cotswolds.
Our progressive, equine-only vet practice is led by a team of experienced and highly qualified equine vets and equine vet nurses. We offer a range of routine veterinary services, as well as in-house 24/7 emergency call-outs, covered by our own equine vets. You will always see an Avonvale Equine vet, no matter what time of day or night you need us.
We are an ambulatory equine vet practice, and our mobile equipment means the vast majority of procedures can be conveniently carried out at your yard. Furthermore, our local partner facility in Warwickshire means we can also provide overnight stabling, artificial insemination, gastroscopy, and our popular clinic days. We can also refer patients on to a suitable referral centre if this is required.

We offer a comprehensive range of ambulatory equine veterinary services, from routine vaccinations, check-ups, and vettings, through to poor performance investigations and standing surgery. Meanwhile, our head office near Banbury is equipped with an on-site laboratory and dispensary, allowing us to process samples and prescribe medication quickly and conveniently.
In addition to our mobile equipment and in-house laboratory, we can provide overnight stabling and procedures including artificial insemination and gastroscopy at our partner facility, Lynwood Stud, in Warwickshire.
Our weekly zone visit scheme means our clients can save on call-out fees for routine appointments, whilst we also offer 24/7 emergency call-outs covered by our own equine vets. We also operate a discretionary 30-day account facility for regular clients.
Our clients value our transparency and commitment to customer service. We can provide cost estimates at any stage of your horse’s treatment, and we do not charge for insurance claim handling. Our practice team endeavour to keep you fully informed at every stage, from initial diagnosis through to ongoing treatment and claim handling.

In addition, clients within a central zone will be able to receive free visits 4 days of the week, Tuesday to Friday.

Avonvale have looked after me and my three horses for many years. They have provided exceptional service and literally saved my old horse's life when he had colic. The staff are always positive and helpful. Any queries are followed up and dealt with promptly and efficiently. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Mary C, Leamington
We have been using Avonvale Equine Practice for many years for all of our veterinary work, enabling us to successfully breed, produce, compete and manage our Event and Dressage horses to a high standard. The team at Avonvale pay a huge role in providing a consistently high level of service which is backed up by an abundance of knowledge and experience. They are always on hand to give advice and come up practical solutions from small management changes to keep our top level horses competing at their best, to giving guidance with our foals and young stock coming through. It really makes a difference having such a reliable team on side that have become invaluable to us here at Lynwood Stud.
Lesley and Amy, Lynwood Stud
After a poor local experience, we began looking for a vet specialising in lameness. A friend recommended Claire at Avonvale and although they are some distance away, we made the journey from Leicestershire. Unfortunately, our mare had a lot of issues and spent a lot of time at Avonvale over an 18 month period. All the staff there were so attentive and caring and worked so hard to try and resolve the numerious issues. We really couldn't recommend the vets, nurses and support team highly enough, they were fantastic. Though not at all local for us, they continue to be our first choice for non-routine issues.
Lee F, Leicestershire
The whole team at Avonvale are excellent, the vets, nurses and the staff at Ratley are always happy, helpful and reassuring.
The vets are clearly very knowledgeable and experienced, yet will also seek second opinions from within the Avonvale team or beyond if they need to. So, I always feel that I am getting the best, considered advice. The continuity is important too, with the same vet seeing a course of treatment through from start to finish.
I appreciate the flexibility of the vets to sometimes discuss concerns on the phone and take a look at photos, rather than always defaulting to a call-out visit. The zone days help keep routine vaccinations and teeth checks to a very reasonable price too!
The client events, that used to be in person, but through COVID have been online, are really informative too - thank you!

I have trained and competed Vignoles Gambit, a pure Welsh D cob, as a pure Dressage horse for the past 10 years up through the levels from Prelim to Grand Prix. We have been under the care and guidance of Avonvale Equine team, specifically Claire Maher, throughout this time. I genuinely don't think we would be where we are today without their knowledge and help!
It is a challenge to keep any competition horses performing constantly at their best, especially one not necessarily bred for high level dressage, so I am truly grateful for all of the advice and management programmes that have kept Gamibt competing happily at Grand Prix over the past few years.
Amy P, Dressage Rider and Trainer
Avonvale have been fantastic in the treatments of any of my horses' illnesses. They are a very friendly team and are always happy to help at any time and to put my mind at rest. This is the best equine practice I have been with.
Gwenan O, Highworth
We have used Avonvale since 2015 and couldn't recommend them highly enough. We have had two horses with complex health issues and they have been so friendly, professional and supporting with helping find the best treatment for them, making each issue much easier to manage. They are also excellent with routine checks, jabs and vettings, and still dedicate a lot of time and care into making sure these are well managed and we really appreciate all that they do for our horses.
Karen H, Northampton
It’s so difficult to put into words the experience of being an Avonvale client. Over the last 20 years, they’ve been there with me celebrating the successes of “fixing” problems, supporting some difficult decisions and also grieved alongside us. No matter what the problem, what the day, what the time ... I know Avonvale are always at the end of the phone. Thank you all at Avonvale, past and present!
Emmie F, Wolverhampton.
Having used Avonvale for a number of years I genuinely would not go elsewhere. From routine visits to accidents, poor performance work ups and subsequent operations I have always felt confident that my precious horses are in the very best hands. Without the extensive expertise of the team at Avonvale, particularly both Naomi and Claire, I fear one or both my horses would be retired to the field. Thank you for all you've done in giving me back my happy horses.
